Why is the county called Västernorrland?

You may be wondering why our county, which is in the east of Sweden, has the name Västernorrland. The reason is that when the county was formed, it was part of a larger kingdom that included Finland. The land to the west of the Gulf of Bothnia was named Västernorrland.
